What Does it Mean to Live Set-apart

I believe that we are called to be set-apart to be different than the world and
to shine the light of Yeshua to this dark world.
We should not be doing the things of this world, but stay on the path of GOD.
Just because the world does something does not mean its wrong, but if its
contrary to scripture then we  should choose to follow scripture.

Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of
God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your
spiritual service of worship.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which
is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:1-2
(NASB)

Conform
 1. to act in accordance or harmony; comply (usually followed by to ): to conform to rules.
2. to act in accord with the prevailing standards, attitudes, practices, etc., of society or a group:
One has to conform in order to succeed in this company.
3. to be or become similar in form, nature, or character.
4.to be in harmony or accord.

Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify you Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:16 (NASB)

Looking for that blessed
hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus
Christ;
Who gave himself for us, that
he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a
peculiar people, zealous of good works.

These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.
Titus 2:13-15
(KJV)

 Peculiar
1. strange; queer; odd: peculiar happenings.
2. uncommon; unusual: the
peculiar hobby of stuffing and mounting bats.

3. distinctive in
nature or character from others.
4. belonging characteristically (usually followed by
to ): an expression
peculiar to Canadians.

5. belonging exclusively to some person, group, or thing: the peculiar properties of a drug.

I believe when we live set-apart we are spreading the light to the
world.

One of the reasons we started our blog was to encourage other girls in their walk with YHWH.

YHWH says we are to be holy as he is holy.

“Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel and say to them,
You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.

Leviticus 19:2
(NASB)

Now that you are obedient children of God do not live as you did in the
past. You did not understand, so you did the evil things you wanted.
But be holy in all you do, just as God, the One who called you, is holy.
It is written in the Scriptures: “You must be holy, because I am
holy.” 1 Peter 1:14-17
(NCV)

What does it mean to live Set-apart? To follow YHWH with all your heart, soul, and might!

Keep living set-apart for Him everyday!

                                                                  May Yahweh Bless you,

                                                                                                 Emily

Hairstyles Part  1 - Basics

11/23/2012

Picture
I just though it might be helpful to give some ideas on hairstyles.

A plain ponytail can be for around the house, or dress it up simply by adding a head band, flower or a decortive clip if you are going out.

Picture
Are you tired of just a plain ponytal? Well, make it somthing new by parting
your hair and then pull it back into a ponytal. Or make a little volume by
taking a piece from the front of your hair, twist it, push it up and hold it in place with some hair barrettes.

Picture
A roll is a litle more dressy than a ponytal so this hair style is more fit for maybe
church, weddings or a party.

Picture
A side braid, french braid, fish tail braid, braided bun, there are all different kinds of braid - too many to list. They can be as simple as a braid down your back or as fancy as a crown braid.

Picture
This kind of bun is pretty much the same idea as a ponytal except wrap it up.
Same thing you can part it or make some volume. You can even braid the pony tail then wrap it.

                                           Bye for now,
                                                    Lydia

A Favorite Snack

One of our family’s favorite snacks is Granola bars.
Picture

We cut ours into squares, wrap them in plastic wrap and freeze them.
We also like granola bars because when we are on the run they are easy to grab and go.
These granola bars are  really easy and fun to make.
We usually have them with a glass of raw milk. These bars are a staple in our house!

Once you have made it severel times you can personalize the ingredients to your taste.  You can put things like different knids of nuts, dried berries,  dried apricots, dates, raisins or your favorite dried fruit.  One of my sisters even put in leftover popcorn one time...I do NOT recommend that!
You can get the Granola bar recipe; Chewy Granola Bars on page 4 in the For Zion’s Sake cookbook. You can get the cookbook here
http://www.hayovel.com/learn/cookbook
We have enjoyed many other recipes out of this cookbook besides the Granola bar recipe.
Here is a granola bar cut and ready to eat.

"Raising Maidens Of Virtue"

Picture
"Raising Maidens Of Virtue" by Stacy Mcdonald is a book I have just finished reading. The topics include; guarding the tongue,
idleness, sibling relationships, honoring parents, contentment, modesty, purity, cleanliness, and
feminine biblical beauty. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to do a review on it.

I read this book for school but I was planning on reading it anyway. I liked it so much that not only did I read it for school
but in my free time as well!

Stacy Mcdonald  recommends her book for girls ages 11-12 because there are a few chapters
that younger girls might have a hard time understanding.

It's a book you may want to read if you would like to know how to be set apart from the world.

It has a  section at the end of each chapter titled "share your heart" which is a question and answer about the chaper. I wrote my answers in a notebook, you could also discuss the questions with your mom and/or sisters (Or if you are the mom; your daughter).
Another reason I enjoyed this book is because Mrs. Macdonald had Scripture to back up what she was saying.

Some of the things I liked about the book is it encouraged me to be more productive, not to be like the world, and that it's good to be set-apart.

The book also talks about modesty, its not only outward appearance but a heart issue too. If someone was dressed in a skirt to their ankles and a very modest shirt but did not have the right heart, then they might seem modest at first but once you get to know them then you might wonder why you thought they were modest in the first place.

                                                  Blessings,

What is a Shofar?

11/4/2012

Picture
                     This is our family shofar.
Shofar? What a weird word, when I first heard the word Shofar it
was about 2 years ago when our family and 2 other families were starting a bible
study together. At the time we were studying the fall feasts of the
LORD.

One of the families brought a shofar with them to show everyone
what it looked like. They told us a shofar was a ram’s horn and that in the
bible the Israelites were commanded to blow them on the feast days, at crowning of a new King, and at times of war.

Since then I have learned that the shofar is mentioned many
times in the bible, it is called a ram’s horn and a trumpet.

Here are just a few verses where the ram’s horn is
mentioned;

Psalm 81:3
Blow the
trumpet at the new moon,
At the full moon, on our feast day.
(NASB)

 Joshua 6:20
So the people shouted, and priests blew the trumpets; and
when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted with a great
shout and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the
city, every man straight ahead, and they took the city.
(NASB)

Nehemiah 4:20
At whatever place you hear the sound of the trumpet, rally to us there. Our God will fight for us.”
(NASB)

There are three different types of sound for the shofar: the
first is called the Tekaih, it is a long single blast. The second is called
Shevarim, it is three short, wail like blasts. And the third is called Teruah, it is
nine quick blasts in rapid succession.

The Shofar is very fun to blow. It does take time and pratice to learn how to blow, but it is very fun once you learn.

I hope this encourages you to look up more on the significance of the Shofar in the bible.

                                   Blessings,

                                              Emily

A New Way to Fix Spaghetti Squash

11/4/2012

Picture
We have been very blessed this year with the opportunity to harvest some squash that we did not plant. Fixing different dishes with spaghetti squash requires somewhat of a creative approach because there isn’t much variety when it comes to popular recipes for this particular squash. It seems like just because it has ‘spaghetti’ in the name people feel obligated to only use it as spaghetti. While I have nothing against Italian food it can get monotonous after a while… I’ve had fun experimenting with Asian spices.

Maybe you’re like us and you have spaghetti squash and want to find a tasty, healthy and inexpensive way to eat your squash without using it as a  spaghetti substitute. I’d like to share my favorite way to fix spaghetti squash.

Asian Spaghetti Squash Recipe

Ingredients:

3 small or 1 1/2 Large Spaghetti Squash
Coconut Oil or Butter
Eggs

Any of the following:
Bell Peppers, Sliced Thinly
Onions, Chopped
Garlic, Minced
Spinach
Mushrooms, Thinly Sliced
Leeks, Chopped
Carrots, Thinly Sliced or Shredded
Cabbage, Chopped

Soy Sauce
Garlic Powder
Onion Powder
Parsley
Salt
Pepper
Chili Garlic Sauce
Ginger
Hot Pepper Powder (dried, spicy peppers that are ground to fine powder)

Peanut Butter or Peanuts

Directions:

Wash the spaghetti squash
Picture
Cut squash in half
Picture
Picture
Scrape the seeds and gooeyness out of the center
Picture
Place squash halves flat-side down on a cookie sheet. Cook in oven at 350* for about 50 minutes
Picture
After Squash is done cooking but before it has cooled, place eggs in skillet with oil
Picture
Stir up the eggs
Picture
After squash has cooled enough to handle, scrape the flesh (I dislike that term for vegetables, eck) out of the squash shell.
(or, if you have really tough hands, you don't have to wait at all!)
Picture
After eggs have cooked,
Add your choice of vegetables... I used what we had on hand so cabbage and leeks
Picture
Picture
Place vegetables in skillet with eggs
Picture
Here, you can see, the vegetables have cooked down a little, this is when I added the Soy Sauce
Picture
You can add the squash now as well as spices
Picture
I cooked the mushroms on the side because some people dislike them. If you don't like mushrooms I would encourage you to try slicing them very thinly and cooking them alone until they are slightly crispy. When  you chop mushrooms thickly and cook them with other food they tend to be more like big, chewy slugs than a small, meatlike, flavor enhancer. You could even try putting them in the food procesor until they are pastey :)
Here is a picture of my favorite asian condiment.. I only used about a Tablespoon or so for the entire dish.
Picture
The finished product!
Picture
Our whole family enjoys this dish. Our whole family does not enjoy peanut butter in our squash.
If you like peanut butter, like I do, then add it at the table :)
Picture
I realize that this recipe does require somewhat of a knowlege of cooking. This is recipe is not for beginners!
There are not hard and fast rules for this recipe... it's more of an idea. Take it and run with it. Cooking is an adventure.

Have fun!
