Once upon a time, in a world much like your own and not too far away from reality, there lived a happy chap named Jacob. While he appeared to be a carefree fellow, under the surface he was a little lonely and in need of a helpmeet. One night when he was completely unaware, a group of girls were huddled in the upper room of a home over a hundred miles away...
"That is a great idea, Sarah." said Bethany. "If we want this youth retreat to be for girls and boys, we should have some guys on the planning committee with us, do you have anyone in mind?" "Well," Sarah replied "I was thinking we could pray about it and discuss it at our next meeting". All the girls agreed and called it a night.
Over the next few days, the names of potential candidates were brought up and given serious consideration. But we will focus on one candidate in particular, and that is the candidate that kept coming to Lydia's mind. Now this candidate has a name, and that is the name Jacob Lansford, this is the happy chap that we met earlier in this blog post.
To go back to how we know Jake requires us to go back to our 2012 Passover week. At the encouragement of some new acquaintances, we attended a week long Passover celebration in Kentucky. Jake and his family also attended this same year. Jake and his sister Joanna stuck out to me from all the other campers because of their friendliness. In fact, Jake is one of the only guys who would meet my gaze and smile back.
The following year, we returned to this same group for Passover. But this year Jake was leading dance for worship. Because of this he stood out in our minds again out of the hundreds of people that attended. Besides these two times we also met at some other gatherings. So even though we hardly knew him, when Lydia brought him up as a planning committee candidate I took her suggestion seriously and stalked him on Facebook.
After he passed the Facebook exam, and I had him cleared with the other planning committee members, I took the first step and asked him to join the planning committee. Much to my surprise he responded the next day and said 'yes'. Thus began the best friendship EVER! And little did I know that 6 months later he'd ask me an even more serious question and I'd respond the same way; YES!
On cloud nine,
Bethany :)
